Overview
Spend 3 days going on trips to see grey whales while staying in a private house in the small Mexican town of Guerro Negro. On the third day, after whale watching, board your private aircraft and fly over to the Midriff Island region on the Sea of Cortez. Travel by boat past numerous islands out to Las Animas Wilderness Retreat set in a crescent shaped bay in an untouched pristine wilderness area. Spend the next 4 days exploring the region by boat and sea kayak and enjoy fantastic hiking. Snorkel with playful sea lions, explore the canal de Ballenas (whale canal) in search of a resident population of Fin whales, the second largest mammal on the planet.
Itinerary Highlights
Experience California Gray whales as they move along their annual migration route, first with a local guide by boat, and then by air. Kiss a whale, snorkle with sea lions, and relax in your bungalow. Be amazed by the beauty of the Sea of Cortez and soak up the tranquility of Baja.
Learn about the Viscaino Biosphere Reserve, the largest in Latin America, and the Ballenas Gris (Grey Whale) followed by a whale watch trip in Laguna Ojo De Libre and a picnic lunch. Enjoy nature walks, bicycling, or more whale watching in Parque de Ballenas de Gris.
Revel in up-close encounters with inquisitive young calves and mischievous, yet mindful adult whales during multiple whale watching trips taking your through the different areas of the lagoon.
Explore the region of Las Animas Wilderness Lodge by both land and water as you enjoy access to sea kayaks, motorized boats, and hiking trails. Enter the canal de Ballenas (whale canal) in search of a resident population of Fin whales, the second longest whale in the entire world.
Take out a sail boat at your leisure. Watch dolphins play and view several more types of whales. Hike the open desert terrain which comes right up to the Sea of Cortez. Learn about the dessert vegetation and foliage, like the cardon cactis, and enjoy the vast beauty of the terrain, from sea to desert.
