Overview

From the mountains to the beach, your family will enjoy this active vacation, starting with a one-day white water trip on the Reventazon (min. age 9 years). Continue to Tortuguero on the Atlantic coast to kayak the backwater creeks of the National Park and observe turtle nesting (Jun to Oct only). Finally, enjoy three full days on Guiones Beach, during which you’ll take family surf classes and a horseback ride into Lagarta Private Reserve

Itinerary Highlights

Day 1: Arrival in Costa Rica (No meals.)

Day 2: One-Day Reventazon Connoisseur (Class II-III. Min. age 9 years) / Tortuguero (B,L,D)
White Glove Service...White Water Adventure™
Ideal trip for first time or experienced rafters. Exciting but forgiving rapids in a tropical setting. On this trip you are the special guest of Costa Rica Expeditions’ River Guides, who will share with you the history and culture of the people of the mountainous Turrialba region. Includes a deluxe Costa Rican breakfast and gourmet lunch served by your guides at their outdoor “river restaurant.” At the take-out, towels and a victory cocktail await. Photo CD included. Drive 1-½ hours to Cano Blanco dock to meet your boat for the trip to Tortuguero. Arrive at Tortuga Lodge in the late afternoon.

Day 3: Tortuguero National Park (B,L,D)
Explore the creeks of Tortuguero National Park by boat with a Tortuguero Guide to observe the wildlife and flora. Return to the lodge for lunch. In the afternoon, local children will arrive to the lodge to give you and your children dancing classes of the popular music of the Caribbean area. Overnight at Tortuga Lodge.

Day 4: Tortuguero National Park Kayak Tour (B,L,D)
Today your vessel will be a sit-on-top kayak for two people, allowing you to go where motorboats cannot and where wildlife is most abundant. (NOTE: For safety reasons, children should be accompanied by an adult.) Return to the hotel for lunch. In the afternoon depart by boat to Tortuguero Village, where you and your children will play soccer (the most popular game in Costa Rica) with teh local children. Overnight at Tortuga Lodge.

Day 5: Tortuguero / San Jose / Nosara / Playa Guiones (B)
Fly to San Jose (35 mins), where a Costa Rica Expeditions’ Transfer Guide will be waiting to assist you with your connecting flight to Nosara (50 mins). Upon arrival a taxi will be waiting to take you to Playa Guiones (25 mins).

Day 6: Playa Guiones / Horseback Riding (B)
Ride vigorous, well trained and well cared for horses into the Lagarta Private Reserve (2-1/2 hour duration). Overnight at Harmony Hotel.

Days 7-8: Playa Guiones / Family Surf Lessons (B)
Two days at Guiones Beach. On both days the whole family will share a three-hour surf lesson on the beach just outside the Harmony’s backdoor. Overnight at Harmony Hotel.

Day 9: Playa Guiones / San Jose (B)
Fly back to San Jose (50 mins). Overnight at Bougainvillea Hotel (garden view).

Day 10: Departure (No meals.)
Transfer to the International Airport, arriving at least two hours before your flight’s scheduled departure time.
