Overview

This fall canoe trip and moose hunt experience is perfect for the individual who wants to learn more about the northern lifestyle of the Yukon, and enjoys a hands-on, participatory experience filled with opportunity to learn and practice new skills.

A true adventure of hunting, fishing and paddling in the northern Yukon.   Camp on the shores of the river and learn to process moose meat back at the basecamp.

Itinerary Highlights

Day 1: Whitehorse Yukon

Meet your Langford & Company representative at your accommodation in Whitehorse or the airport.    After a quick tour of town drive one hour southeast along the Alaska Highway and then travel another 12 km into the Yukon bush to the base-camp on the shores of Cabin Lake.  Prepare for your moose hunt with the guide learning about trip planning, menu planning, and strategies for the hunt.

Days 2-8:  Canoe Trip

After a delicious breakfast depart Cabin Lake and drive southeast on the Alaska Highway to where the road crosses the Teslin River. This is known as Johnson’s Crossing.   Turn on to the North Canol Road, driving another hour north to hour put-in for the Nisutlin River.  Over the next seven days travel southeast through some of the best moose habitat in the Yukon.  Here you will find excellent opportunities of being successful on our hunt.

Days 9-10: Processing the Moose Meat

Return to the basecamp at Cabin Lake after what we hope was a successful hunt. Learn to process the moose meat into sausages, jerky etc. and relax in the wilderness setting.

Days 11-14: Fishing for Arctic Char

Over the next 4 days enjoy fishing for arctic charr on Cabin Lake. In between checking the nets you will process your catch, learn how to smoke fish, harvest cranberries, stoke the cabin fire, and go father afield to fish for pike or arctic graylining.
