Sailing the Waters of the San Blas

Go to the Best Places in the World
"Best of the World 2012" Locations, Done by Langford & Company
November 3rd 2011

We’ve always thought that the trips we run, the people we work with, and the adventures we take were the best in the world. Although we assumed we were being biased, maybe we were right all along! As showcased by National Geographic, Travelers Magazine picked what they called “Best of the World 2012” This prestigious list carried the names of 20 ideal locales to visit. And guess what? A couple of L&C’s favourites made the list:

The first is Panama with its gorgeous mountain plains, sprawling city lights, and thriving indigenous cultures. Literally connecting the world, Panama’s famous sites go way beyond the canal. Diverse cultures and landscapes abound and are waiting to be seen and explored. Langford & Company is now offering 3 remarkably different trips showcasing the multitude of activities, sights, and scenes that Panama has to offer. One amazing, luxurious adventure is spending the week aboard a sailboat getting the best access to some of the 400+ islands making up the San Blas region. While here, fishing, kayaking, snorkelling and exploration is involved in making the Perfect Week in Panama.

Canada got some love on the list as well as the wilderness of Muskoka was noted and praised. Langford & Company is home-grown out from Ontario and we are proud to offer trips to share the beauty of our home. Our trips range from a ‘Fresh Air’ challenge for corporate team building, to canoe expeditions on a summer trip for the family.

We’ve always been proud of where we travel, and are happy others enjoy its beauty as well.

Camping in the Carribean
Explore the British Virgin Islands and Get Closer to Nature
October 28th 2011

Voyageur Quest travelers aren’t your typical travelers. While they enjoy scenic routes, beautiful accommodations and great food, their definitions differ. Scenic routes come from getting the most hands-on, close to nature views by hiking or kayaking. Beautiful accommodations aren’t restricted to resorts but are found in thatched roofs, private villas, and camping on white beaches. Great food isn’t necessarily made by classically trained chefs, but by locals using age-old traditional recipes pan frying fish that they themselves caught earlier in the day.

Our BVI Island to Island Sea Kayaking Adventure is no exception. One thing that makes this trip standout is the unique accommodations. While kayaking from St John, the most idyllic but smallest of the US Virgin Islands, you will travel by sea kayak from island to beautiful virgin island. Every night you will sleep beneath the stars on deserted beaches, allowing you to take ‘the road less traveled.’ For five days, the white sand beaches and reefs of the islands become your home. You will camp on places like Peter Island, only accessible by water, the largest private island in the BVI. You’ll make your way to Jost Van Dyke where you will stay at a campground in White Bay. Travelling this way, the ‘views from your room’ are sure to be unbeatable.

You Don’t Have to Wait for Summer to Kayak

October 21st 2011

Kayaking the Beautiful Waters of the Virgin Islands

We at Langford & Company love all things outdoors, but one of our favorite things to do is kayak. During the summer months and beyond, our sister company Voyageur Quest offers all types of kayaking trip in our beautiful land in Algonquin Park. Perhaps you’ve come on a trip with us already and would like to kayak in a tropical locale. Luckily, we have trips that take you to gorgeous kayaking spots all year long.

The British Virgin Islands feature remote and outstandingly beautiful sites for kayaking. Starting off at the smallest of the US Virgin Islands, St John is the most pristine and the most protected. The Virgin Islands Nationals Park covers surrounding waters and over 60% of the island. There’s plenty of activity available here from hiking the rugged terrain, to exploring the white sand beaches, and viewing tons of colourful coral reefs. Our trip goes from island to island, exploring what makes each so unique and beautiful. Recently, customers have added on days in Puerto Rico, including time spent in an incredible bioluminescent bay, and more time to enjoy St John.

I’ve Heard of Kissing Frogs, but Kissing Whales?
With a Whale Watching Trip to Baja, It’s Possible to Get Just That Close!
October 13th 2011

The Baja Peninsula is the last stop on the longest migration that any mammal in the world takes. The Grey Whale, which can grow to be about 50 feet long and 50-70 years old, takes part in an annual migration from the frigid waters of the Bering Sea in Alaska to the warm waters of the Baja Peninsula. The trek is over 8,000 kilometres (5,000 miles) long and the whales swim about 120 kilometres (75 miles) a day. On a trip like this, whales typically travel in groups of smaller numbers but about 20,000 animals make the migration every year. Although the Peninsula serves as their birthing lagoons, where one might expect them to be somewhat protective, they are actually quite social. They can often be seen pushing their young calves towards the surface, possibly even to make friends with a traveller on a boat passing through! The best opportunities to see grey whales is in the Baja Peninsula, and our trip is perfect to see the whales by boat; our trip trip has the added bonuses of allowing you to explore the area by kayak, hiking the open desert, snorkel with sea lions, and enjoying time on a chic eco-lodge.See for yourself!
