Career regrets - wish you had become a marine biologist? Adventure can fill the void. British Columbia’s coastal waters are home to about 300 resident Orcas, which congregate in the Southern Queen Charlotte Sound and Johnstone Strait during the summer months. Possibly no other place on earth boasts such a large number of these beautiful animals amidst such stunning scenery. Imagine observing whales from the surface of the water in sea kayaks and like real marine biologists using hydrophones (underwater microphones) to listen to their submarine communication.

Old Growth Forests and Beaches of Vancouver Island
August 8th 2006

800 year old cedar trees! Yes that is how old the “old growth” cedars and western hemlocks grow to be in Vancouver Island’s Pacific Rim National Park. The “old growth” hiking trails found along the park corridor were a huge hit with our family. It was shocking to read on the flight home that the BC government may be opening up parts of Clayaquot Sound to logging again.

The beaches of Vancouver Island’s Pacific Rim National Park are filled with surfers of all shapes and sizes. This has to be the Surf Capitol of Canada! Long Beach is an ideal location to learn to surf. With over 12km of beach, there is ample room to find your wave!
