Belize is a Birder’s Paradise
Explore one of only 12 rare bird sanctuaries in the Caribbean!
April 13th 2011
With an abundance of over 500 species of birds, Belize is a favourite Central America spot among birders and nature lovers. Located 10 miles off the coast of Dangriga, Belize bird lovers do not want to miss Man-O-War Caye.
This caye is a bird sanctuary and a major nesting site for the magnificent frigate. Watch from your private rooftop patio as hundreds of these large sea birds circle above the tiny caye. A guided boat trip gets you up close to witness the males mating ritual where they inflate a huge red pouch on their throats. In addition to the frigates, the island is home to a large community of brown boobies, spectacular sea birds known for their ability to plunge into the ocean to high speeds to catch their next meal!
