Old Growth Forests and Beaches of Vancouver Island
August 8th 2006
800 year old cedar trees! Yes that is how old the “old growth” cedars and western hemlocks grow to be in Vancouver Island’s Pacific Rim National Park. The “old growth” hiking trails found along the park corridor were a huge hit with our family. It was shocking to read on the flight home that the BC government may be opening up parts of Clayaquot Sound to logging again.
These forests are irreplaceable. Pacific Rim has great trails as does Carmanah Walbran - home of the largest trees in Canada.
If the forests are not reason enough alone to get your family to Vancouver Island, the beaches on the west coast surely add more incentive. Long beach, Wickinish, and Chesterman all offer superb swimming, surfing and endless tidal exploration. Langford & Company customizes unique adventures on Vancouver Island .
