"Superior" hiking in Ontario’s Pukaskwa National Park
Celebrating 100 Years of Park’s Canada
May 19th 2011
To many of us Canadians, the May long weekend means the beginning of summer and the first trip "north " to cottage country, the mountains, river or whatever piece of this great natural paradise you love. If this weekend gets you thinking about summer, you might think about a trip to one of Canada’s national parks. While many of you know about Banff or Jasper, or maybe Tofino near Pacific Rim, there are so many other incredible national parks, some of them closer to your home than you think. Here in Ontario, one of my favourite places is Pukaskwa on the north shore of Lake Superior. This Park is rugged and offers in my humble opinion, the best hiking in Ontario. Pukaskwas’s coastal hiking trial offers 60km of gorgeous lakeside trail with stunning beaches, talus slopes, and white water rivers. This Park is so wild, the highway was built around it!
Today’s Globe and mail has a really great story on Canada’s national parks with recommendations of secret places from each of the park’s staff. Check out the story here!
